Harvest Barn Wood Sign

After all the projects I have been doing lately..I ended up with a few random pieces of wood that I dare not throw away, because who knows when you will need it for something?...I decorated my porch for Fall/Thanksgiving and decided I needed some height..Hence..my idea for a barn Wood looking sign...

Materials needed:
Any old or new piece of wood
Wood Stain..whatever color you want. I chose Minwax brand in Dark Walnut
Acrylic Paint
Sand paper
Stencil (I made my own using my silhouette cameo)
Rag that you don't care about throwing away

I started off with a plain piece of wood...semi-smooth but not perfect...its about 29 x 5 1/2 inches.
I spilt something on this wood...but who cares...its going to be stained..and be outside..

I did one coat of stain and let it sit for 20 minutes before wiping it off....this was the result..(I'm so obsessed with wood stain, its crazy..its just works so fast and I love it...)

I then came inside & created my stencil using my Silhouette Cameo. I measured my wood and made my stencil the same dimensions. I then cut this out using card stock. I had to use 3 sheets of it to get my lettering to all fit. This font is called Apple Berry and I got it on dafont.com

Taped down my stencil....I still pushed down on the edges of each letter as I painted the lettering on. Once I painted each section I lifted off the stencil and used a q-tip to clean up any excess paint.

I went over each letter free-handed to give it a deeper orange color. After the paint had dried, I used a fine-grit sand paper and sanded some of the edges and some of the front....I didn't want it too distressed but it need a little aging.

I think I still need another haystack...but This sign definitely helped! I like how it turned out, and how super incredibly easy it was to make. I will be sharing another project soon that I made using this same stain & a homemade stencil.
Any Fall Decor projects going on at your house?

xoxo,
